Types of Compressed Air Equipment

Diagram 1 is a typical layout, please note, your system may not look like this as there are hundreds of different options - some Air Compressors come built in with Air Receiver, Dryer and Filtration for example.

Starting with your Air Compressor, then into your Air Receiver/Tank, here your air is stored until required and also to help to keep a constant supply to your equipment. Then into the first filtration unit, normally removing liquid and dust particles above 3 microns, next we have the refrigerant Dryer that cools the air to remove moisture as the Compressing process produces heat, then onto the After Filter which removes liquid and dust down to 0.01 microns making clean air to be used in your Compressed Air Machinery. As you can see from the diagram the Air Receiver, Filters and Refrigerant Dryer have drains these take the water and oil to the Separator so each element can be disposed of safely and in accordance with health & safety/ environmental regulations. If you are not looking for a full package we can also help you with individual equipment.

Air Compressors.

There are several different types of Compressors that are available. Piston/Reciprocating, Screw and Vane Air Compressors are most commonly used. Each type of machine having advantages and disadvantages. We have experienced Compressed Air Engineers that can come to your site and offer a free of charge, no obligation site survey to help you decide which of these machines would be most appropriate for your application. Please call us today on 0114 2432347 we would be happy to help.

Refrigerant/ Desiccant Dryers.

This part of the system is essential for removing moisture from the compressed air. The process of making compressed air creates heat which in turn contains moisture. In Refrigerant Dryers, the air is cooled down to normally +3 C at which temperature dew drops form, removing the moisture from the air and discharging it into the drain. In Desiccant Dryers, the moisture can be removed using ultra absorbent materials down to -70 C dewpoint. The Dryer must be sized to cope with the maximum air flow for when the plant is running at full capacity. Let us help choose the right sized product for the right job. To discuss your exact requirements further please call us on 0114 2432347.

Oil Water Separators.

To comply with Condensate Drainage Regulations an Oil/Water Separator is a must. All drains from Filtration, Air Receivers and Refrigerant Dryers can be piped into the Separator where the filtration bags absorb only the oil and the clean water can be piped to your foul drains.

Air Receivers

In with a package or as a one off purchase we can supply new Air Receivers from our standard range at 50 to 5000 litres, we can also offer a bespoke service designing and supplying to your specific requirements. All Air Receivers are made to BS5169 and supplied with Safety Valve, Auto Drain and a test certificate

Inline Filtration

This is a must in Compressed Air Systems as dust particles are ever present in the air, most compressors are located near to factory production which can lead to product contamination and fine oil vapour from the Compressors itself can enter into the air lines. Clean air is necessary for every application to keep the system efficient and productive. Depending on your application there are the basic filters shown in diagram 1 but also available are carbon activated filters to absorb the Oil Vapour and those requiring breathing air a filter which gives technically oil free and clean air which conforms to breathing Standards BS4275. For further information on other types of filtration please contact us.
