21/01/2012Advice for your Compressed Air Systems through the winter period. Don’t forget to prepare your building and Compressed Air equipment ready for the cold snap.
We can all take measures to prevent damage and breakdowns to our Air Compressors and associated equipment caused by extreme cold temperatures. Here are a few tips from us.
- Drain all Air Receivers, Condensate Drains and Electronic Drain Valve etc of water to prevent ice forming
- If possible; insulate any Oil/Water Separators that exposed to the elements
- All Rotary Screw Air Compressors need to be covered or have small heaters installed inside so they don’t drop below freezing. Please contact us for further information about an installation
- We’d be happy to assist you by carrying out a site survey for your specific circumstances

Opening Times over the Christmas period
16/12/2011We will be closing on Friday 23rd December until Tuesday 3rd January. We will still be offering our breakdown service to any customers who will be open over the festive period so do not hesitate to contact us with any problems and we will get a Compressed Air Engineer to you asap.
New Online Banking System
09/12/2011Good news for our suppliers, we are updating our online banking which means all payments we send will go by the Faster Payment Scheme rather than by BACS. The new System will be fully up and running in January.
New Staff
05/12/2011We are happy to welcome a new member to the Servicing Team. We have a new Compressed Air Engineer who has his 17th Edition and specialises in Refrigerant Dryer Servicing. It’s great to welcome another highly experienced engineer to Algar Air.

Construction Skills Certification Scheme Renewal
08/11/2011All the Engineers who needed to renew their CSCS Certification have in October and November being taking the relevant examinations, Peter & Gary – Operators, Mark Supervisor and Stephen Algar Managerial & Professional; Congratulations to each of them as they have all passed their Construction Skills Health & Safety Examinations.
Written Scheme of Examination Updates
01/12/2011Recently, current customers will have received their annual review form for their Written Scheme of Examination. If you haven’t already please return the completed form as soon as you can.
It is extremely important to keep your Written Scheme of Examination up to date so all your Compressed Air equipment is scheduled to be inspected at the correct intervals. If you don’t have Scheme already or haven’t received your review form please contact head office on 0114 2432347. 20/10/2011We are looking for a Maintenance Engineer/Electrician to be part of our excellent Service Team. We need a proactive individual with a professional approach to their work. The right candidate will be able to work well in a small team as well as individually with the ability to multi-task and problem solve. We are looking for a solid all-rounder, with a wide range of abilities and attention to detail. This position is for a full time engineer subject to a six month/ year trial period.
Duties to include:
- Electrical installations of Compressed Air Equipment
- Inspections & Testing of Electrical Systems
- Breakdown problem solving
- Compressed Air Pipework installations
- General on-site maintenance
- Face-to face liaison with Customers
- Other duties will be involved
Personal Specifications:
- Clean/Low points Driving License
- 17th Edition (Ideally)
- Knowledge of Compressed Air
- Excellent communication skills; written as well as verbal
- Flexibility; normal working hours are 7.30am-5pm with out of hours, weekend and away work required at times
- Basic Health & Safety knowledge (Ideally CSCS Certified)
- Forklift Truck/Scissor Lift/ Booms License (Ideally)

Waste Carrier Licence
05/08/2011New Waste Carrier Licence received! As per the Waste (England & Wales) Regulations 2011 we are certified for the next three years to remove your hazardous waste from site. Please remember as Hazardous Waste Producers you will need to Register** your business with the Environment Agency so we can remove the Waste Oil and any associated Oil contaminated Compressed Air Service Items. The sources of hazardous waste in compressed air systems are.
- Condensate
- Oil from servicing
- Used oil filters elements
- Desiccant
- Air filter elements
- Air end/pump items
Our Waste Carrier Licence Number for your records is CB/WM3184TH. If you’d like a copy of our certificate please email info@algarair.co.uk or each engineer carries a card.
**You may not need to register if you produce less than 500kg of Hazardous Waste per year

In the Compressed Air Industry where safety, reliability and compliance are essential we are happy to be approved and surveyed to show all our customers and suppliers that we conform to the highest standard. - Most members of staff take part in regular exercise including regularly attending the Gym, 5 a-side League Football, Zumba/Dance Exercise Classes and one member of the Team who regularly walks the 8 mile round trip to work and back!
